zoomer.de was Germany's news portal for the young generation. A revolutionary idea whose implementation required a lot of creativity. Never before have users been at the center of a news portal's attention like that. The project ended in feb 2009 because of the economy and media crisis.

There are many good news portals in Germany. But in fact, they are very similar. They all come from the print sector, where editors decide which stories get published. zoomer.de is different.

zoomer.de is the news portal for the young generation - a further development of the Social Network idea and the classic news portal. At zoomer.de the user's behavior directly influences the work of the editorial board.

The more often an article is being clicked, the higher its placement on the site and the attention of the editors for this issue. Likewise, the timeliness of an article also influences its ranking.

zoomer.de consists of a powerful CMS and a sophisticated front end, which provides users with an interactive Web 2.0. experience. The framework is a Zope application server, the calculations of the rankings are based on an SQL database and complex technical processes.

zoomer.de was redesigned and relaunched in November 2008, achieving significant performance gains. The portal was stopped in in February 2009.
