meinBerlin.de is a completely new form of a local city newspaper. A zoomable web portal, in three different views to look at one's own neighborhood, district and the city as a whole - as a map, a newspaper and a newsfeed from your neighborhood.

meinBerlin.de puts those stories down, that touch people's everyday life. And cannot be found in traditional newspapers anymore, as these because of economic constraints no longer are able to dig as deep as would be necessary to include the city's stories in their entirety.

The idea of meinBerlin.de - ultra-local user-generated content in a completely new design - at the time of its formation was absolutely unique. The design phase of this ambitious project started in fall of 2006. After a public beta in July, meinBerlin.de reached www-status in December 2007. The development phase lasted only eight months.

Technologically, the project always pushed the envelope. Especially as far as Google Maps and Ajax are concerned. Features, that meinBerlin.de implemented very early, served as a starting point for further developments and can now also be found in other local news portals.
